And some of Hollywood’s biggest names aren’t immune to the addictive nature of tobacco, whether it’s traditional cigarettes, vapes or e-cigarettes. Not to mention the many more celebrities who smoke weed, or enjoy it in other forms—medical and otherwise.
If you’re trying to quit, or are curious, we’ve rounded up 25 celebrity smokers. This includes some who have completely quit, others who are trying to quit, and a small handful that seem to have no plans to give it up.

Hollywood star Ben Affleck’s smoking habit has been reported as a source of frustration for ex-wife Jennifer Garner, who he shares three children with. Coffee and a cigarette: bingo! I’m not sure if I want you to print that,” she told Vanity Fair in 2008.”
But Kate Winslet reportedly gave up smoking a few years later, telling The Irish Independent that doing so had “transformed” her complexion.
Do actors really smoke on-screen?
Most of the time, actors will smoke herbal cigarettes if they’re playing a character that’s required to smoke. Also known as ‘fake’ or ‘prop’ cigarettes, these realistic looking smokes are made of a blend of herbs to help reduce the health risks of smoking.
Some actors also say they’re not very nice to smoke, including Kate Winslet.
“Herbal cigarettes actually don’t smell very nice. They sort of smell a little bit like burning poo, to be honest. So it’s a rather odd smell,” she said in a 2024 interview with Virgin Radio in the UK while discussing her film Lee.
Other famous actors who don’t smoke in their own lives have also spoken about using herbal cigarettes on-screen, including Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy. Murphy actually said after Oppenheimer that he didn’t want to play a smoker for his next role, telling The Guardian: “I’ve smoked so many fake cigarettes for Peaky [Blinders] and this. My next character will not be a smoker.”
