Two Australian hotels have been named among the best in the world—and neither are in our biggest cities, Sydney or Melbourne. The Calile in Brisbane and The Tasman in Hobart made the list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels, and were the only two in Australia to make the cut.
This marks The Calile‘s second year on the list, dropping from 12th place in 2023 to 25th this year. It was, however, dubbed the best in the Oceania region. The stylish accommodation evokes Palm Springs with its unique architectural design and deckchair-lined swimming pool. It also comes with some A-list credentials, having hosted celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Nigella Lawson.
Meanwhile, The Tasman in Hobart’s centre scraped in at number 49. The luxurious five-star offering near the picturesque wharf and Salamanca markets offers rooms themed across different aesthetic eras, from Heritage to Georgian and Art Deco. Opening in 2021, The Tasman is the first Australian outpost of Marriott’s Luxury Collection.
The ’50 Best’ lists have become a hotly-anticipated event in the calendar for travel lovers looking for their next phenomenal luxury stay. The awards are decided by vote from 600 industry experts, including journalists, hoteliers, luxury travellers and other travel and hospitality insiders.
This year, the list named Bangkok’s Capella Hotel as its #1 must-stay, with hotels in Lake Como and Hong Kong coming in at number 2 and 3. Here’s the top 10:
- Capella, Bangkok
- Passalacqua, Lake Como
- Rosewood Hong Kong, Hong Kong
- Cheval Blanc, Paris
- The Upper House, Hong Kong
- Raffles Singapore, Singapore
- Aman Tokyo, Tokyo
- Soneva Fushi, Maldives
- Atlantis The Royal, Dubai
- Nihi Sumba, Sumba Island
