LUDWIGSHAFEN – BASF is to switch its production of (meth)acrylate, a key ingredient in the production of acrylic fibres and for chemicals for the textile coating sector, to a bio-based process.
The chemical giant said that instead of its traditional fossil-fuel based acrylate, it will shift to bio-based ethyl acrylate (EA) as a raw material from the fourth quarter of this year.
